What is Jaundice – A Brief:
Jaundice is a symptom, not a disease. It indicates congestion within the liver which leads to a buildup of bile in the blood.
The cause for the congestion has to be identified to guarantee real healing.
Scientifically, Jaundice is named as hepatitis A, B, C, D, and E.
Hepatitis A is commonly referred to as yellow jaundice and hepatitis B and C are commonly referred to as black jaundice.
Yellow jaundice is usually a low-severity disease and often recovers automatically with no complications.
However, black jaundice usually causes a complex condition and severely affects the patient’s daily life.
How a person can be Infected from a Jaundice virus?
The virus enters a healthy person from an infected person through contaminated blood and a variety of other bodily fluids, where it attacks the liver and it can cost you from minor liver inflammation to death.
The major sources of spreading jaundice rapidly in many countries are used surgical instruments, second-hand syringes, tools for nasal piercing, contaminated blades, and circumcision with infected blades in children are among a few others.
Unprotected sex and unnatural sex practices can also cause jaundice to engulf a person in death.
On the other hand,
The infected mother can also transmit the disease to the baby during pregnancy, at birth, or even later (through breastfeeding).
Causes of Jaundice in Adults:
Jaundice is not as common in adults, but there may be several reasons for this disease:
1. Heat in the Liver
Jaundice is a serious symptom characterized by the production of an icteriod. This is a specific disease that is sequenced by extraordinary heat in the liver.
When the heat increases in the liver, our body starts to show the symptoms of this heat that may result in fatty liver, anemia, and jaundice.
2. Overuse of Chemicals or Infection
Jaundice can be caused by overuse of chemicals through different drugs or it can be due to an infection. (1)
Or it may be due to physical damage and thus has to be treated accordingly.
3. Increase in the Bilirubin Level
Jaundice occurs when the amount of Bilirubin increases.
Bilirubin is a yellowish-orange substance in the blood that is found in red blood cells.
When these cells die, the liver strains them from the blood.
When there is a problem in the system, the liver does not function properly and Bilirubin starts to increase, which causes yellow skin signaling about jaundice. (2)
As you know now…
Jaundice is a disease associated with liver, and liver functioning is important for good health for a variety of reasons.
But the importance of liver is doubled when we get to know that the liver along with stomach plays an important role in the digestion of foods we eat.
So people often ignore the symptoms that come in the form of any disorder or illness.
Symptoms of Jaundice:
Here are the silent signs and symptoms of Jaundice that you need to know.
1. Jaundice can make your skin yellow
Yellow skin itself is a symptom of a low amount of blood in the body.
When a person is affected with jaundice, the liver starts to perform poorly.
The skin color begins to change and becomes yellow or orange in a few days.
2. Jaundice Causes Fatigue
Everyone experiences fatigue at some point, but the fatigue experienced due to liver disorders is completely different.
In the case of jaundice, you may feel tired very soon. This may be a sign of jaundice if you get tired of doing a little work.
3. Jaundice cause Lack of Platelets
Platelets are small particles inside the blood that is necessary to prevent the risk of death from the bloodstream.
Platelets are deficient in most liver patients and are also a major source of liver disease identification.
If anyone gets to know about the low amount of platelets in the body, he is most likely to be affected by Jaundice.
4. Jaundice can make you feel Nausea
Feeling of vomiting is not pleasant for anyone and persons suffering from jaundice may often experience nausea.
If you experience nausea or vomiting after eating a little food, you need to contact your doctor right away as this is a clear sign of jaundice.
5. Jaundice can cause you Swelling on the Body
This is the most famous sign of jaundice.
There is swelling in different parts of your body, especially swelling of the legs, which is common in jaundice patients.
If your feet are swollen frequently, you should go on a walk for minutes a day regularly can improve blood flow to the legs.
Hence, you can get rid of swelling on feet. But you have to get proper treatment of jaundice. (About which I will discuss later)
6. Patients with jaundice often complain of abdominal pain
However, people suffering from jaundice can experience stomach pain as well.
But most of the time this pain is linked with the liver. Liver pain is very intense and feels like being hit by a dagger.
If you are experiencing such type of pain in the stomach, it can be due to pancreatitis, but you should consult a doctor if such pain is persistent.
7. Jaundice causes Loss of Appetite
As you know, jaundice is such a disease that hurts the liver and stomach.
If your stomach hurts, food may be the last thing that comes to mind.
Isn’t it so?
It is not surprising if most people with jaundice experience physical weight loss and loss of appetite before, during and after the treatment of jaundice.
8. Yellowing of Sclera (the white part of the eye)
This is the very symptom of jaundice that the color of skin and eye become yellowish-orange, and when jaundice is not treated properly, the color can be converted into yellowish-green.
Moreover, the color of the urine will also be dark yellow.
And if you are a sexually active person, you will notice that the color of your semen has turned yellow.
If you notice this symptom, take it seriously and start your treatment right away.
But it is always better to diagnose the disease in a proper way.
How to Get Jaundice Diagnosed:
The above-stated symptoms of jaundice can tell you enough about jaundice, but still, you should see your doctor for the treatment of jaundice.
The doctor determines the type and duration of treatment depending on the patient’s diagnosis and the severity of the disease with the help of different tests and examinations.
Doctors usually perform Bilirubin tests when the symptoms of jaundice appear, indicating the amount of this substance in the blood.
If the patient is affected by jaundice, the amount of Bilirubin in his blood will be high.
The physician may also prescribe a checkup and other tests after finding out about the symptoms, which can find something more about the liver.
In some cases, the CBC test (through which blood cells are counted) can also be conducted to find out the right cause of jaundice.
The most important thing is that the sooner the treatment is started, the better the results.
If the treatment is delayed, then the liver becomes dysfunctional in a few years (in some cases, in a few months).
If left untreated, the disease can also cause liver cancer.
But, don’t you worry!
